Fire Retardant Fabrics - Sunshine Coast
HOME POINT - FIRE RETARDANT EXTERNAL FABRICS
Dry summers of the Sunshine Coast are always causing alarm because of a bush fire; whether you live in an area where this is typical or non, Fire Retardant Fabrics products, especially when they’re installed in your home, are always an advantage.
The tragic fires at Grenfell Towers in London had a global impact, prompting Australia to strengthen its building codes to prevent similar incidents. Many Class 2 to 9 buildings in Australia have external awnings that do not meet modern standards. Some of these buildings, which encompass a wide range of high-density and commercial structures such as apartments, hotels, hospitals, schools, and offices, were required to remove fabric awnings on their exteriors or face condemnation.
Despite this, some body corporates have hesitated to grant approval, leading to the enforced removal of these fabric-style awnings. Additionally, regulations have been implemented governing the installation of roofs, external blinds, and shutters on Class 2 to 9 buildings, effectively restricting traditional fabrics above the ground floor.
We have come up with a Solution
Home Point has collaborated with industry bodies and fire engineers to address the challenges related to the installation of these awnings and has developed a viable solution. If you represent a Body Corporate or have clients seeking assistance in resolving these issues, Home Point can provide the support you need.
We employ the Performance Solution procedure to assure Certifiers and Body Corporates that fire hazards are effectively reduced. Essentially, this implies that when these materials are intended for installation on the higher levels of multi-story residential or other business structures, each undertaking must undergo evaluation by a Fire Engineer and receive certification indicating minimal to no fire danger. This method is outlined in the NCC as a “Performance Solution”.
We’ve collaborated closely with the “Australian Association of Blind Manufacturers” and a National Fire Expert to develop a “Performance Solution” for materials that meet the strict requirements of AS 1530 part II and Part III fire assessments. This solution can be proposed for approval in a specific project through the involvement of a certifier. However, please be aware that there’s no absolute assurance that a certifier will endorse this Performance Solution. Therefore, it’s crucial to consult your certifier before making any commitments. If your certifier approves our solution, we can offer you a Performance Solution for a fee of $500.
In case you’ve bought any awnings from us, there’s a chance we can provide you or your customers with fire safety certificates that meet the latest standards. We’ve got a diverse selection of products that could possibly meet your client’s requirements if you need an alternative or a replacement. If you’re in need of a fresh fabric covering to meet the regulations, we may also have a solution for you.
